Who
uses the services of Avanlee Birth Center?
Women who are healthy without major medical problems are excellent
candidates for a birth center birth. Also, women who desire
to play an active role in their care and are seeking an alternative
to a hospital often choose a birth center. |

Who
can come to my appointments and to the birth?
We encourage you to bring your husband and children to any
appointments and especially to the birth. Dads are encouraged
to support you during labor. They can sit with you in the
Jacuzzi, walk with you down the hall, or lay next to you in
the bed. You are more than welcome to invite the whole family
for the joyous occasion. Video cameras and cameras are permitted. |

food to keep you energized. |

Will
I be confined to a bed during labor?
Absolutely not! We encourage you to walk around and change positions.
Freedom to move about actually helps with your comfort level
and improves the labor process. |

What
happens after the birth?
Immediately following the birth, your baby is given to you.
You will never be separated from your baby. After you have bonded
with your baby, we will let Dad cut the cord. We will monitor
you and your baby until you are ready to go home (usually between
3-6 hours). We will then see you again between 24-48 hours after
the birth. There are 3 additional postpartum visits to complete
your care. |

Why
do some women choose a water birth?
Laboring in warm water allows your body to relax. When your
uterine muscles relax, the contractions can work more effectively
which can lead to a shorter labor. Laboring in water will also
increase endorphin production which is the body’s way
of naturally controlling pain. Our women refer to it as the
natural epidural. |
